Does it feel like time for a change?

Picture
Maybe something has happened that's shaken up your world, and you need to adjust. Or maybe you have decided you want to make changes. In either case, this can be a pivotal time in your life. It's a sign that it's time to step back and take a look at your real needs.

A period of reflection, supported by a caring and insightful guide, is an investment in your future life satisfaction and wellbeing.

Who Am I?
I'm a qualified, experienced counsellor.  I work with people who are facing many difficult life challenges.

My qualifications include a postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, an MSc in Organisation Behaviour, and Master Practitioner of NLP (ITS trained).  I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow their ethical standards.

I also have many years experience as a consultant in organisational change and conflict resolution, working in a variety of organisations in the public, private, voluntary and education sectors. I continue to provide corporate  mediation and training services.

....and how do I work with you?
That depends on you and what you are looking for. You may wish for a short, structured programme of coaching sessions to help you work towards a particular goal. Or you may prefer to explore the issues which are coming up in more depth. We review together what approach you would like to use at any time.

I am trained in psychosynthesis, a method which pays great attention to the power of the resources in you, such as your imagination, the wisdom of your body and mind. I bring in approaches drawn from other disciplines such as Neuro Linguistic Programming, coaching and mindfulness meditation. I have many years experience of working with people in conflict and have an interest in the creative use of conflict for developing ourselves.

WHERE?

Sessions are available in South London (SW2 - Herne Hill/ Tulse Hill area) and in Hove, Sussex.

Counselling or Coaching: Which is for me?
I am a counsellor and a coach. People often ask what is the difference between these two things. In practice there’s a big overlap. Both are about helping you to achieve more of your potential. Both start from where you are now and where you want to get to.  The roles of the coach and counsellor are also similar in that they are working with you to support you in finding your own way, rather than providing you with expert advice.

So what are the differences? Basically, counselling tends to focus more on understanding and healing what’s happened in the past so you can have more choices about  your present and your future; while coaching tends to focus more on your goals for the future and how you can achieve more in your life, dipping into the past to gain insights only when recurring blocks to your progress make that essential. In practice coaching often tends to follow a more structured method, with goals and questionnaires, while counselling works more with what’s naturally going on in your inner world.
Both approaches have their merits and the good news is, there’s no need to make an irreversible choice when you start to work with me. Because I’m trained in both disciplines, we can mix and match, using elements of both approaches as needed.
